8 Beauty Products I Would Splurge On If I Had An Extra $500

Maybe I’m just weird, but one of the things I like to do when I am bored is go on Sephora’s website and imagine I won a $500 shopping spree. What products would I splurge on? How would I choose to spend that money? I don’t know about anyone else, but there are some products that I would never spend my hard-earned money on because they are either too pricey or too unnecessary. But if the money was given to me…well that’s a whole different story!

Note: This is just for fun. If I had and extra $500 laying around I probably wouldn’t spend it on makeup or beauty products. There are definitely more important things in life! But it is fun to think about…and you never know when you may win a Sephora shopping spree! It’s always good to be prepared!

Product 1: GLAMGLOW Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment – $69

Screen Shot 2015-10-06 at 10.29.11 PM

I recently impulse purchased the 0.5 oz sample of this GLAMGLOW mask (which is surprisingly a better economic purchase at $19 for 0.5 oz as opposed to the 1.7 oz full size product for $69) and I admit, my life is changed. I love this mask. It is tingly, smells like a spa, and really does make a difference on my skin.

The problem: how do I justify spending $69 for mud? Make no mistake – this is mud. There are even little sticks and leaves in it that really do make me think that GLAMGLOW is going into the woods behind their factory, shoveling dirt from the ground, mixing it with some other stuff, and selling it as an innovative miracle mask. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I am now successfully on the GLAMGLOW train, I just seriously question my sanity, as well as capitalism’s hold on me, when I’m paying $69 for a 1.7 oz jar of wet dirt. That being said, if I won a gift card or shopping spree or even the lottery, I would definitely purchase enough GLAMGLOW mud to cover my entire body. No ragrets.

Product 2: Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush – $44

Screen Shot 2015-10-06 at 10.30.00 PM

I have always been intrigued by these type of color adjusting products! They are like the pants from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants that magically adjust and fit to each girl despite their differing body types. Having a blush that will change to be your perfect shade of pink is my idea of wonderful. But at $44 a pop, this beautiful Dior blush is eternally relegated to my “save for later” list.

Product 3: Marc Jacobs Beauty The Bronze Bronzer Brush No. 12 – $78

marcjacobsthebronzebrush1

You’re eyes are not deceiving you! This Marc Jacobs Bronzer Brush is truly $78. For $78 this brush had better be magical! And according to the Sephora reviews it is about as close to magic as a makeup brush can get. I’m intrigued to find out exactly why a tool that you use to put your already expensive-enough makeup on your face is so expensive on its own. If I won a shopping spree, I’d be sure to find out!

Product 4: Viseart Eyeshadow Palette in No. 1 Neutral Matte – $80

VISEART_12_COLOR_EYESHADOW_PALETTE_600__49680.1429051172.600.600

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a serious love affair with matte eyeshadows. Especially warm orange and brown matte shadows. That is why this palette speaks to my soul! Unfortunately,  this soul-speaker also comes with an $80 price tag.  Now, when considering the value of eyeshadow palettes, beauty gurus online always like to break the price down to the cost per ounce of product to show that the palette is worth it. For example, the Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette which came out earlier this year retails for $54 and contains 0.60 ounces across 12 shadows. This Viseart palette also contains 12 shadows but retails for $80 for 0.84 ounces. I’m not a math wiz, but if I did the math correctly, the UD palette value is $90/oz while the Viseart palette value is about $95/oz. That’s not a huge difference value wise but does it help ease any of the sticker shock on the Viseart palette for me? Not really. This is the type of splurgy product I would use a birthday gift card on not my hard earned dollars.

Product 5: Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara – $32

s1667872-main-hero-300

I’ve always been a drugstore mascara kind of girl. While some products I will splurge on, mascara is one of those things that I have trouble spending a lot of money on. Why do I need to spend $30 on something that I’m going to have to throw away in 3-4 months? Drugstore mascaras work really well for me and I’m happy with them. But my ultimate lust-worthy mascara is the Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara. Forget Dior or Lancome! Armani has captured my heart. I’ve always wanted to try this mascara and would definitely take advantage of a situation where I may have the chance to make my mascara dream come true!

Product 6: Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Cream – $95

s1589118-main-hero

I recently received a sample of this cream and I was amazed. I’m not super into anti-aging products as I don’t think my skin really needs that right now, but this cream was wonderful. It was thick but not too heavy and was moisturizing without being greasy. I was all ready to purchase the full size until I saw the price. Because of that, this moisturizer is at the top of my list of outrageous things to buy should I ever come into some extra cash.

Product 7: Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Bronzing Veil – $48

kevynaucoin_tropicaldays001

Meow! This is one sexy bronzer. Definitely worthy to use with my $78 Marc Jacobs bronzer brush! Every swipe would be like brushing a $100 bill on my face. Doesn’t that sound nice? On a slightly more serious note, Kevyn Aucoin makeup has always been on my dream list. If I had a million dollars to spend on makeup, I would own Kevyn Aucoin’s entire line.

Product 8: Burberry Wet & Dry Silk Shadow – $29

burberry_003shell001

Now you may be asking yourself, KD Bonbon, if you’re struggling with paying $80 for 12 eyeshadows, what are you thinking considering spending nearly $30 on a single eyeshadow?! I don’t know. I’m crazy. If we’re going full-forward looking at how I would reasonably spend my imaginary shopping spree funds, a single, luxury, Burberry eyeshadow would be it. You can see where my priorities are…

Running total: $475

What would I spend the remaining $25 on? I don’t know. I guess I’m leaving my options open. What spluge-worthy beauty products would you purchase if you received a shopping spree or a gift card? Do you spend your own money differently than money you receive as a gift?

Best Halloween YouTube Tutorial Videos

Halloween is a fun time for any beauty lover! You get to dress up as whatever you want and wear crazy makeup as well as have a great excuse to eat lots of candy. It’s a time to experiment with products and colors that you would usually never wear and just have fun.

Over the years, I’ve turned to YouTube for many costume inspirations as well as makeup tutorials for looks I am trying to do. YouTube is a fantastic resource for everything Halloween from costumes to party ideas, house decor and spooky nail art – there is something for everyone!

Here’s some of my favorite Halloween costume and makeup tutorials from YouTube. Some are easy, others are a lot more intense. Some of these tutorials may not help you out this year if you are like me and don’t decide on your costume until the very last minute but I have included some last-minute costume ideas and makeup tutorials as well!

Happy Halloween!

Comic Book Makeup by Madeyewlook

Lex (Madeyewlook) is one of my all time favorite makeup artists on YouTube. She specializes in body painting and creates some amazing, intense, and scary looks! She puts up dramatic tutorials all year round but during Halloween she kicks it up a notch and delivers some amazing looks. These comic book makeup looks are great last minute ideas that are easy to do and customizable to the products you already have. Later down in this post we’ll see some more looks by Lex that show how talented she really is.

Greek Goddess by Nicole Guerriero

I’ve been some version of a Greek goddess for the past three years. This is one of the tutorials I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from because it’s bold and bronzy but easy to tone down into something more natural as well. The lip part of this tutorial is definitely my favorite and is a trick I’ve used over and over again!

Elsa from Frozen by Angela Lanter

Frozen was one of the biggest movies of the year and Elsa one of the most popular costumes this Halloween. With that purple eyeshadow, big lashes, and blonde hair, who wouldn’t want to be Elsa for Halloween! This is a pretty easy, fun tutorial that will definitely make you the best Elsa at that Halloween party!

Sugar Skull by Dulce Candy

There are so many variations of sugar skull tutorials on YouTube but I really like this simple black and white one. It’s understated but still awesome. Dulce does a great job of explaining what you need to do so the look is very easy! This face look would be a great last-minute idea!

Zombie by Tess Christine

Zombies are so in right now. This zombie tutorial is pretty cool but does require some special products so it may not make a great last-minute costume idea. However, you could always tone down the gore and make do with products you already have. Then just rip up some old clothes and walk around like you are ready to eat some braaaaains!

Rainbow Dash by From Head to Toe

Who doesn’t love My Little Ponies? Rainbow Dash is definitely my favorite one and Jen does a great job of adapting the style of Rainbow Dash into a makeup look! And you don’t need any special face paints to complete this look! Just some colorful eyeshadow!

Frankenstein Makeup by Madeyewlook

Another great tutorial by Lex! This one is a lot more intense than the last one we saw from her and definitely requires some planning and skill. Isn’t she amazingly talented? I love watching her videos and seeing her transformations. Definitely go subscribe to her channel to see more of her amazing creations!

Mystical Gypsy by Dulce Candy

This kind of tutorial could be adapted to fit all sorts of costume ideas (or just be worn as a dramatic night eye look). Gypsy costumes are always popular and this is a great makeup look to go with your costume!

Vampire Bite by Christina Rose

If you don’t want to do a full face of makeup or worry about buying a costume, a simple vampire bite is a great subtle Halloween look! Just wear jeans and a black top and let the vampire bite speak for itself. I really love Christina’s version because it looks so cool and is still really easy to put together.

6 Beauty & Makeup Products I Use Everyday

This is a very simple post. Below are six products that I use everyday. Even if I only have five minutes (or less!) in the morning these products are the ones I will spend the extra time putting on. They make a huge difference to my face and help me to look more awake and put together. I think it is really important to have a handful of products that you know you can reach for as you are running out the door. I keep all these products within arms reach on my vanity so that I know exactly where they are and never have to go searching for them.

1. Origins GinZing Eye Cream ($30)

This is a product I began using three weeks ago and it has quickly become part of my everyday morning routine. You only need a small amount for each eye, so although this eye cream is a bit pricey, it will last you a long time. I just dab a little on my ring finger and then tap it on under my eyes. It really works to brighten up my under eyes and make them feel refreshed. I generally have sensitive eyes and this product doesn’t irritate them at all which is a plus.

2. Black Eyeliner – Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner ($6)

The exact eyeliner I use for this varies but recently I have been loving this Covergirl black liner. I only apply it to my tightline to make my lashes look fuller and my eyes stand out. When I’m running late and I don’t have a lot of time, this step and the next product I’ll talk about is something I will not skip. It makes me look more awake and put together.

3. Black Mascara – Revlon Lash Potion ($8.50)

Mascara is a must for me! This Revlon one is the one I am currently using and I really like it! I don’t know if it is my favorite mascara ever, but it makes my lashes look voluminous and separated and doesn’t smudge on me. If you have any drugstore mascara suggestions, let me know in the comments below! I would love to try some new ones out!

4. Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel ($22)

anastasia-caramel-tinted-brow-gel

In my opinion, brows are a really important part of everyone’s makeup routine – or at least they should be! Especially when you are not wearing a lot of makeup, defined brows help to frame your face and make you look put together in a very subtle way. The idea is to fill in your brows in a way that makes a difference to your face so that someone looking at you will think “Wow, she looks nice today” as opposed to, “Wow, look at her brows.” On days when I don’t wear a lot of makeup I will use a tinted brow gel like the Anastasia one because in one step it helps to make my brows look more filled in and keeps my brow hairs in place.

5. Be a Bombshell Cosmetics Smooth Criminal Powder ($12)

SmoothCriminal-700x700

I recently got this in my September Ipsy Bag (check out what else I got in my box here!) and have fallen in love with it. On days I’m running out the door, it takes the place of concealer, foundation, and/or powder for me. It also works well as a finishing powder over foundation. It makes your skin insanely smooth and fills in your pores so your face looks flawless.

6. Lip Balm – Korres Lip Butter in Guava ($12)

korres-guava-lip-butter-d-2012021500154927~166971

Now, it is by no means necessary to spend this much money on lip balm! There are so many great lip balms you can get for under two or three dollars at the drugstore. However, I got this lip balm in a value set when Korres was on Hautelook and as part of the deal, I got this at a great price. I’ve been using it for a few months and it is a really awesome product. The scent is really nice and fruity but not overly strong and it feels great on your lips. I use this before bed and when I wake up and my lips feel smooth and nice. So if you want to invest in a nice lip balm (or technically lip butter), I would recommend this one, but it really is not necessary.

Which products do you find yourself using every day? Do you believe in the importance of doing your brows every day too? Share your thoughts below!

Let’s Talk About How Awesome My September Ipsy Bag Was!

It’s been a while since I’ve been signed up for Ipsy (previously known as Glam Bag) but last month I thought I would sign up again and see how I liked it now that the company has had time to grow and improve their system. My first bag back was the September “Street Style” bag and I must say, I am very pleased! I may ever go as far to say that I’m ecstatic!

Victoria Song f(x) Cute Excited GIF (2)

For those of you not familiar with Ipsy, it is a monthly beauty subscription box (or in this case, bag) where for $10/month you receive approximately 5 deluxe samples or full size makeup and beauty products to try out. Each bag is a different combination of products available that month and depending on what you bag contains that month, this is a great value service that allows you to try new and different products that you wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to try.

That being said, some month’s bags are awesome, some are okay, and some suck. It all depends on your personal preferences toward products and pure luck. This month I happened to luck out but there have been months that I’ve been extremely disappointed with the boxes I get from subscription services like this. It’s not a sure thing that you will be completely satisfied but in my opinion it’s worth it. I love getting something fun in the mail every month and appreciate the exposure to new brands and products.

Like I said, this month I think I got really lucky!  So take a look inside my bag below and if you like what you see you can get your own Ipsy bag for $10/mo here!

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of the bag itself but it is a metallic grey square zippered bag with studs along the top. When I first saw it I will admit that I wasn’t super impressed because it isn’t really my style but the bag feels nice and seems well made. And the more I look at the bag sitting on my desk, the more the design is growing on me. I mostly use these Ipsy bags for when I go on vacation to store makeup or jewelry so I’m sure I will end up getting a lot of use out of this bag for that purpose since it is slightly bigger than some of the previous bags.

Inside I received 5 items – 3 full size products and 2 deluxe samples. Here is an overview of what I received:

262

The first product I received was the Nourish Organics Moisturizing Cream Face Cleanser.

face wash

Full size product retails for $13.99 on their website. Get 30% off with code IPSY30!

What Ipsy says about the product: “This gentle cleanser washes away impurities without drying, irritating or causing redness. Cucumber hydrates and soothes. Watercress, rich in antioxidants, helps protect skin from free radical damage. Alcohol-Free. Gluten-Free. Vegan.”

238

My feelings: I like this cleanser. Not love. But like. It’s a gentle milky cleanser that smells organic (if that is even a smell) and makes my face feel clean and smooth. When you’re rinsing the cleanser off, it does have that squeaky “too clean” feeling that I’m not a huge fan of, but after you dry your face the feeling goes away. I’ve used it a few times and haven’t noticed any adverse reactions and like the way my skin looks after using it. It would definitely be on my list to repurchase after I finish this sample and get through some of my other cleansers.

The next product was a full size Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Stick in “Make a Mauve”:

master glaze

This product retails for $8.99 at Ulta and they always have BOGO 50% off sales on Maybelline products as well as coupons for $3.50 off purchases of $10 or more!

What Ipsy says about this product: “Now cheeks glisten with the sheerest color glaze. Cheeks go dewy and gently glazed with this portable, creamy blush stick. Glazed pearls + a shea butter glide provide blendable, natural color and smooth, even application. Fragrance Free. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types.”

252

253

255

Top is the blush blended out and bottom is the full color of the product.

My feelings: I’ve been considering trying these Blush Sticks from Maybelline for a while now but since I’ve never had much luck with cream blushes, I never took the plunge and bought one. That is why I am so happy that I received this one in “Make a Mauve” in my Ipsy bag! I really like this product! The color is great for fall – it’s a brighter plum shade – and the product itself is awesome. I’ve been wearing it every day since I got it and I love the results. I first apply the product to two fingers and then pat the color onto the apples of my cheek, blending it out until it is even. I then like to top the cream with a powder blush in a similar shade to extend the wear of it. I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Flush (which was limited edition but Blushing Bride is similar) for this and the color lasts all day on me. Overall, I am very happy with the product and think I may go pick out a few more shades!

Next up we have a deluxe sample of the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask:

don't despair repair

The full size of this mask retails for $26. Use the code IPSYSEPT14 to get free shipping on Briogeo’s website!

What Ipsy says about this product: “Repair and treat dry, damaged and breaking hair with Don’t Despair, Repair!™ deep conditioning mask…This unique complex of targeted ingredients helps increase hair elasticity and moisture to prevent breakage, promotes healthy shine and luster, and replenishes strength…In lab studies, the use of Don’t Despair, Repair!™ resulted in 81% less hair breakage after just three uses. Safe for color-treated, chemically-treated, and keratin-treated hair. For those with fine or thin hair, we recommend focusing the treatment on the mid-length to the ends of the hair only, and rinsing thoroughly.”

247

249

My feelings: I’ve used this once so far. You don’t need very much of it, which means you should get more than a few uses out of the 1 fl oz sample. It made my hair feel soft and moisturized but not greasy so that is a plus. I don’t know if I would repurchase it because it is expensive and didn’t do anything amazing that my $3 Aussie 3 Minute Miracle can’t do, but I do like it and I will be happy to use all of this sample!

Next we have the Pacifica 7 Free Nail Polish in Red Red Wine:

pacifica

This product retails for $9.00. Use the code FallBeauty on their website to get 20% your entire purchase!

What Ipsy says about this product: “Our new 7 Free Nail Polish is long lasting and void of many chemicals that one would find in traditional nail polish. Amazing vibrant colors that go on smooth and stay put. Plus we have added a custom wide 100% vegan brush for easier application. 7 Free is formulated without parabens, phthalates (dibutyl phthalate), toluene, xylene, camphor, formaldehyde, resin, and animal byproducts.”

257

258

My feelings: This is a nice nail polish! After taking the above pictures I painted all of my nails with it and have gotten many compliments on the color so far. It is a much deeper wine red color than the pictures above show it as (the stock photo is much closer to the actual color). It is not a very unique color, but it is a universally appealing and flattering color. That’s only one coat on my thumb nail in the picture above so you can see that the color is pretty opaque. It only took two coats to get perfect coverage and the resulting look is not streaky at all. I’ve only had it on for a few hours so I don’t know how long the polish lasts before chipping. Usually polishes only last 2-3 days on me before they begin to chip so if this Pacifica polish can go at least that long I will be happy.

Last but not least we have a full size  Be a Bombshell Cosmetics Smooth Criminal Powder:

smooth criminal

The Smooth Criminal Powder retails for $12. Use the coupon code IPSY30 on Be a Bombshell Cosmetic’s website to receive 30% off your purchase + a free Coco Delight Lip Gloss!

What Ipsy says about this product: “This lightweight, ultra-fine, silky formula softens the appearance of imperfections, fine lines, and pores while leaving you with a beautiful glow. This finishing powder can be worn alone or to set your foundation. The translucent formula works for all skin tones. It is made from 100% silica and leaves your skin with a matte finish without drying it out.”

244

My feelings: I’ve saved the best for last. This powder is amazing! My new holy grail product! I was unsure of how I would use this at first and put it to the side for a few days but after checking out the reviews of the product on the Be a Bombshell Cosmetics website and hearing how much others loved the product I gave it a try. And I am glad I did! This powder is translucent, silky, lightweight and makes my face look flawless. It fills in/blurs pours and makes your face feel and look wonderful. I even use this under the eyes to set my concealer and I find that is all I need for the day! What a great product. When I run out of this  I will definitely be buying more!
